FINK, Herman E.

After growing up on a farm near Leavenworth, KS, Herman enlisted in the USN, in July 1943, two days before his eighteenth birthday.
He was honorably discharged the day after Christmas 1945.
He served during WWII, in the Asiatic-Pacific American Theater as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Cowpens (CVL-25).
While stationed in San Diego, CA, he met Doris McPhie through mutual friends.
They were married in Yuma, AZ, on November 11, 1944.
They spent 50 years raising a family in San Bernardino and Yucaipa, CA.
After retirement, they spent 18 years in Stayton, OR, and then four years in Spokane, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman J. and Bertha E. Fink; all of his siblings: William H., Mildred I., Leonard B, Raphale E., and Rita M; his son-in-law, John D. Bishop; and his great-granddaughter, Savannah E. Shrier.
Herman is survived by his wife of 71 years Doris; his children: Taffy L. Bishop and Michael E. (Paulette) Fink; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial gathering and the spreading of his ashes “at sea” will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Hospice of Spokane is suggested.
