Obituary: Dorn, Glenn P., Sr.
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Glenn Paul Dorn, passed away April 27, 2016.
Glenn was born in Yakima, Washington, to Angela Massoth Dorn and Joseph Dorn.
He graduated from Marquette High School in 1952.
While attending Yakima Valley Junior College, Glenn met and then married Valerie Jean Lamm in 1954.
He later earned his BA at Central Washington College of Education, and shortly after, Glenn began his long career as an educator.
He first taught in Yakima, and then continued his education to earn his MS from the University of Portland and his Ph.D. in 1974 at the University of Oregon.
Glenn was soon hired as Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Klamath Falls, Oregon, and later Superintendent of Schools for the Jefferson (Oregon) School District.
After his many years of educating and inspiring children, and leading his fellow educators, Glenn retired to spend more time with Valerie, his wife of 62 years.
They spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona, and summers in Salem, Oregon, and later back in Yakima.
They enjoyed traveling with each other, their children, and their grandchildren, visiting most every state, Canada, Mexico, and Germany.
Glenn enjoyed golf, playing pool, and rooting on the Oregon Ducks.
Glenn’s sisters Juanita, Joanne, and Virginia, and his brother Jim preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother Jack (Judy); his wife Valerie; four children - Marilyn, Glenn, Jr., Annmarie (Robert), and Steve (Kim); nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Betty Heilman.
Funeral Mass will be Monday, May 9, 2016 at 2pm and will be celebrated at The Jesuit House Chapel, behind St. Aloysius Church at 330 E. Boone, Spokane, WA.
Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
