Obituary: Stratton, Wayne Hersey

Age 88


STRATTON, Wayne Hersey

Was born on November 25, 1927 and was married to Bernadine Coy on May 13, 1949.

Wayne passed quietly on April 19, 2016 of complications from internal bleeding.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hersey and Mabel (Lloyd) Stratton, his wife Bernie Stratton, brothers Lawrence and Wendell Stratton and sister Dona (Stratton, Shepherd) Rogers.

He is survived by his brother Lloyd (Lefty) Stratton and five children, Terry Stratton, Colleen Crooks, Susan Solverson, Gail Guy and Jacqueline Stratton.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ezra and Rachael Crooks, Trevor and Johanna Crooks, Mica and Amber Guy and Shandra and Josh Tanner.

He also has great-grandchildren, Amelia and Lachlan Crooks, Anna and Olivia Crooks, Monroe Guy and Gharrett and Aubrey Tanner.

He went to Idaho Hill Grade School and Newport High School.

After a short time as cook for the railroad, he was employed by Diamond National Lumber Mill until he retired.

He worked on the green chain and was well known as the lift truck driver most likely to scare the stuffing out of you.

He was an avid bowler, invented the game of cribbage, was the deer slayer who shot five deer in one day.

The family would like to invite you to a memorial service followed by a reception at the Newport United Church of Christ located at 430 West Third in Newport, WA.

Service will be on May 13th at 3:00.

In lieu of flowers, you can make donations to United Church of Christ Women’s Fellowship or your local Alzheimer’s Association.

Members of Women’s Fellowship entertained Dad through both their cooking and a group of the ladies, called The Sunset Club, who visits the Newport Extended Living and hosts sing-a-longs.

As we all know, Dad loved to sing-a-long.
