Obituary: Schad, Sherrill Mary (Powers)
Age 72
SCHAD, Sherrill Mary (Powers)
Sherry was the third born of Robert K. and Ann J.
Powers on July 30, 1943 in Hermosa Beach, CA.
The family had left their native Boston area and spent the war years in California before moving to Texas and then settling in Spokane in 1949.
Of her beloved siblings, she followed Patricia Powers and Robert K. Powers, Jr. (Judy); preceded Mark G. Powers (Kim), Theresa L. Engdahl (Ted), and Christopher F. X.
Powers (Stephanie); and was predeceased by her brother, Geoffrey M. Powers, who is survived by his wife, (Laurey).
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Stephanie Schager Bohlman (Brett) and Aimee Schager Woodburn (Rick).
Sherry lost her husband, Joseph E. Schad, in 2002, and missed him tremendously until her dying day.
She is also survived by her first husband, Thomas E. Schager (Kathy), who Sherry and the family appreciated for his continuous support and concern.
Sherry left this world on May 16, 2016.
Sherry’s education began in the two-room schoolhouse on Glenrose Prairie in Spokane with Patti and Buzz and continued through Sacred Heart Grade School and Holy Names Academy.
Her father thought Sherry would be a good doctor and rushed her through high school and college at the University of Portland and Rosary College.
At age 19, she enrolled in Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin.
A Master’s Degree was close enough for Sherry, and she practiced as a Medical Technologist in a long career at Pathology Associates and its successors.
As the ever adventurous one, Sherry was the first in the family to water and snow ski, inspiring her brothers and sisters to follow, as well they did.
She provided unlimited support to her daughters, Steph and Aim for their educational, athletic, family and professional endeavors.
Her grandchildren, Chloe and Parker Bohlman, and Elizabeth, Ashlyn and Nathan Woodburn, carry on her generous spirit.
She is fondly remembered by her twelve nieces and nephews, the indefatigable “cuzzies”.
A Rosary will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 6:30pm at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division St., Spokane, WA.
Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 11:00am at Assumption Catholic Church, 3624 W. Indian Trail Road, Spokane, WA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be welcome at Hospice of Spokane or Meals on Wheels, two charities that were very instrumental in Sherry’s life.
