Todd Hess, of T & J Construction, was on his way to a job site Wednesday, May 25, 2016, when he saw smoke and flames erupting from a camper near the corner of Washington and Shannon in Spokane. Hess used a hose from a neighboring home to try and slow the blaze until firefighters from Station 2 arrived on the scene. He abandoned his efforts after the fire burned and dropped utility lines across the yard. The destroyed camper was in the backyard of a home in foreclosure. (Dan Pelle / The Spokesman-Review)
