Lincoln County fire grows to 100 acres

Crews are battling a 100-acre wildfire in steep terrain in Lincoln County.

Firefighters were called to an area northeast of Fort Spokane and west of Lilienthal Mountain about 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, said Jill Jones, dispatch manager of the Northeast Washington Interagency Communications Center.

No home were threatened by the fire as of 9 p.m. A line has been built around 40 percent of the fire, Jones said.

The fire is in Lincoln County Fire District 5. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is adivsing people to stay away from the area, which is northeast of state Highway 25.

Jones said the blaze, called the Flat Landers fire, is burning brush and timber. Local and Department of Natural Resources crews are on scene. Three helicopters were used to fight the fire on Tuesday.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
