East Valley, Freeman host state soccer openers
East Valley heads a small contingent of Spokane County high school soccer teams still alive in state competition. The Great Northern League champion Knights, 14-3 and coming off a 6-0 win over Ellensburg in regional play, open the State 2A tournament Wednesday night against Orting (14-4-2).
Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at Gonzaga Prep. The winner will go on the road for a quarterfinal against Selah or Port Angeles.
In the 1A ranks, Freeman opens state play against Cashmere on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Spokane Falls Community College. The winner will play La Salle or Elma in the quarterfinals this weekend.
Saint George’s qualified both its boys and girls teams for the 1B/2B tournaments, and both will host first-round matches on Saturday.
The Dragon boys will host Mt. Vernon Christian at 11:30 a.m. and the girls face Brewster at 1:45 p.m.
No Greater Spokane league teams qualified for state in either the 4A or 3A classificiations.
