Education Notebook: Six Spokane Public Schools students semifinalists in scholarship program

Six Spokane Public Schools students were recently named semifinalists in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Seniors Grace Teeple, from Ferris High School; Ava Beck, Hannah Hertz, Benjamin Read and Benjamin Sepinuck, from Lewis and Clark High School; and David Song, from North Central High School, will now compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth $33 million.

West Valley High

to host college fair

West Valley High School will host a college and scholarship fair for students in grades eight-12 interested in two- or four-year colleges, technical school and/or the military Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The fair will include information on FAFSA applications, the College Bound Scholarship and NCAA eligibility. It will be held at the school, 8301 E. Buckeye Ave., from 5:30 to 8 p.m. For more information, call (509) 340-7182 or email debbie.reeder@wvsd.org.

Freeman High will

hold car wash, sale

The Freeman High School wrestling team will hold a car wash and rummage sale, featuring items donated from more than 20 families, on Saturday.

The fundraiser will be held at the Galaxy Grind, 12402 E. Saltese Ave., Spokane Valley.

Northwest Christian

raises St. Jude funds

The Northwest Christian School football team has partnered with Touchdowns Against Cancer to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Fans are asked to pledge a donation for every touchdown the team scores through Oct. 1. Pledges can range from $2 to $100 and will buy pediatric isolation masks, thermometers, medical testing dolls, rehabilitation weights and child-sized crutches.
