Shadle Park shuts out U-Hi for third consecutive win
The Shadle Park Highlanders had enough offense and plenty of defense Friday in their 18-0 victory over the University Titans in the first game of an Albi Stadium doubleheader.
The win was Shadle’s third in a row, as the Highlanders moved to 3-1. U-Hi falls to 1-3.
The Titans had some self-inflicted wounds throughout the game and only threatened twice. U-Hi partially blocked a Shadle punt and was 1 yard from the end zone but lost a fumble a minute later.
U-Hi had first-and-goal from the 10-yard line late in the game, but an 8-yard sack led to a turnover on downs.
The Shadle defense used its speed to get to U-Hi quarterback Zak Sherick and kept tailback Hunter Gregerson in check.
Shadle went into halftime with a 12-0 lead. On the first play of the Highlanders’ third possession in the second half, quarterback Carson Doyle connected with Vinny Epefanio on a 79-yard catch-and-run touchdown.
That was the only score of the second half. Shadle had four chances late in the game from within the 5-yard line, but Doyle was picked off in the end zone.
Shadle also got help from running back Xavier Wicks, who finished with 114 yards and a touchdown.
Doyle finished with 233 yards passing, two interceptions and two touchdown passes. Epefanio had three receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown.
