Free blood-lead screening available in Kellogg this week

From staff reports

Free blood-lead screening is available at the Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg this week.

The screening runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The screening is available for children 18 and under and pregnant women living within the Bunker Hill Superfund site. Families of children between 6 months and 6 years who participate will receive a $30 payment. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Lead is a neurotoxin and exposure can cause severe health problems, especially for children and pregnant women.

Screenings are on a first-come, first-serve basis. They require a finger prick, and results are available immediately. For more information, call (208) 783-0707.
