Use free speech

Recently I attended a summer class on the 500th Anniversary of The Reformation in Europe. Dr. Jim Edwards commented that the Reformation would never have taken off so rapidly if it weren’t for the Gutenberg Press. Since I believe history repeats itself, I began to think about media that have impacted Western Civilization, including writing, speaking and tweeting.

“Thou shalt have no other Gods before me,” Moses - The Ten Commandments

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God,” Jesus – Sermon on the Mount

“The just shall live by faith,” Martin Luther - the Bible, Gutenberg Press.

“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country,” John F. Kennedy.

“Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction.” Ronald Reagan.

“Make America great again” – Donald J. Trump.

Numerous Americans live in the fantasy Hollywood Land of Oz. Some are like the Scarecrow, “If I only had a brain.” Many are like the Cowardly Lion seeking courage. Finally, the Tin Man acknowledges he’s missing a heart.

The First Amendment guarantees religious liberties, freedom of speech and press. We have inherited a noble experiment in ordered liberty. Don’t lose it. Use it.
