Detention centers abusive
Immigrant detention centers are abusive, unethical and a waste of taxpayer’s money. The U.S. uses immigrant detention centers to house illegal immigrants while the process of their deportation or their release to live in the U.S. is completed. However, these detentions house children, women, elderly, asylum seekers and men where families are separated and are housed in a jail-like environment with overcrowding because too many people are going into these detention centers.
Not only are these detention centers unconstitutional, they are a waste of tax money. There is an alternative to immigrant detention centers, which is the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program (ISAP). The ISAP is where illegal immigrants are supervised by sudden phone calls (with a voice recognition device installed in the supervisee’s phone), scheduled appointments and in some extreme cases, an ankle monitor. All under the cost of $12 a day, while detaining one person is $95. Immigrant detention centers are not necessary in the U.S. and the ISAP should be implemented on a wider scale.
