UPDATED: Sat., Dec. 23, 2017

From staff and wire reports

A man is facing criminal charges after allegedly assaulting three firefighters Friday night, according to the Spokane Fire Department.

Around 6:30 p.m., Spokane fire responded to a house fire on the 6600 block of Winston Drive and found a man outside his home who appeared to have suffered from smoke inhalation.

The man, who’s name has not been released, then became combative, the fire department said, and allegedly hit one firefighter in the face with a large mug.

When the homeowner was moved to an ambulance, the department said, he allegedly assaulted two more firefighters. According to the Spokane Police Department, he was sent to a hospital in a police vehicle.

Spokane police did not confirm Saturday if the man was arrested. His home suffered significant damage from the fire.

Two firefighters who were allegedly assaulted, and a third firefighter who suffered mild burns fighting the blaze, were all treated and released.
