Area boys: Pullman pulls off mild upset over top-ranked Clarkston

Tim Pendry and Isaiah Strong scored 12 points apiece and visiting Pullman, ranked fourth in state 2A in the latest WIAA RPI ratings entering play, upset No. 1 ranked and top-seeded Clarkston 63-53 on Tuesday in the District 7 2A Great Northern League title game.

Pullman shut out Clarkston 18-0 in the second quarter.

Both teams move on to a GNL/Central Washington Athletic Conference glue crossover game on Saturday, with a trip to regionals for the winners. Pullman (18-5) will host Toppenish (14-6), while Clarkston (18-3) travels to Prosser (12-8).

Jacob Wells and Jared Anderson added 11 points apiece for the Greyhounds.

Jett Sobotta led Clarkston with 24 points. Jake Albright scored 14 points and Travis Hansen added 11.

Intermountain

Kellogg 65, Priest River 47: Toby Colburn scored 21 points and the visiting Wildcats (14-2, 6-0) defeated the Spartans (6-13, 3-4).

Kellogg jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first and pulled away with a 23-14 third-quarter run.

Trevor Bumgardner and Chase Jerome added 15 points apiece for Kellogg.

Hunter Hartwig led the Spartans with a game-high 25 points.

Central Idaho

Orofino 49, Grangeville 48: Bayley Noah tallied 23 points and visiting Maniacs (13-5, 2-2) beat Grangeville (8-10, 0-4).

Noah made eight baskets while shooting 6 for 8 from the free-throw line.

Orofino led 29-20 at intermission and withstood Grangeville’s comeback attempt. Garrison Bretz scored 10 points to help the Maniacs.

Luke Stokes scored 19 points and Colby Kennedy added 10 for Grangeville.

Nonleague

Lake City 76, Lakeland 35: Kenny Louis-McGee scored 13 points and the Timberwolves (15-5) handled the visiting Hawks (7-13).

Lake City trailed 19-18 after the first quarter then took control, outscoring Lakeland 58-16 in the last three quarters.

Duncan Butler, Kyle Manzardo and Nic McCartin scored 10 points each while James Carlson scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds and had three blocked shots for the Timberwolves.

Dylan Vahey scored 16 points and Kaden Davis had 11 for Lakeland.

St. Maries 70, Wallace 59: Jacob Sieler scored 19 points with six assists and four steals and the Lumberjacks (11-4) defeated the visiting Miners (11-8).

Down by one after the first quarter, St. Maries went on an 18-6 run in the second quarter to take the lead. Brady Martin scored 16 points with 12 rebounds and Bryant Asbury scored 11 points with 10 rebounds.

Wallace was led by Zack Welch with 19 points.
