Bonner County deputy wounded in shootout released from hospital

Bonner County Deputy Justin Penn was released from Kootenai Health Thursday afternoon, three days after he was shot three times while trying to arrest a man in Blanchard.

Dozens of officers and deputies came to the hospital to see Penn off, according to a Facebook post by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.

The second deputy wounded in Monday’s exchange, Michael Gagnow, is still in serious condition at Kootenai Health. He was also shot three times and is expected to recover.

Adam Deacon Foster, the man the deputies were trying to arrest on two misdemeanor warrants for battery, is suspected of wounding both deputies. He was also wounded and is listed in fair condition.

The shooting is being investigated by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
