Miryam’s House will show off renovations at open house

Miryam’s House, a transitional housing program for homeless women, located on the South Hill, is celebrating a $250,000 remodel and update with an open house on June 10 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a program at 10:30 a.m.

Among the major improvements were a complete update of the shelter’s electrical and heating system. Edie Rice-Sauer, executive director of Transitions which operates the shelter, said some cosmetic updates were done, too.

“We were able to do some painting, and we refinished hardwood floors,” Rice-Sauer said. “We really needed it and it looks amazing.”

Women who live at the shelter were moved out in February, and moved back May 22.

“It’s really been a process,” Rice-Sauer said.

Money for the updates came mainly from the city of Spokane’s Community Development Block Grants, but also from private donors and volunteers.

The shelter keeps its address private. If interested in attending the open house, email mtracey@help4women.org or call (509) 328-6702.
