Public can meet Spokane County Library District director candidates on Thursday

By Caroline Hammett The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane County Library District will host a reception for the public to meet the two remaining candidates hoping to become the district’s next executive director.

The meet-and-greet, featuring candidates Cindy Moore and Patrick Roewe, will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Fireside Lounge at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place, in Spokane Valley.

Roewe, 38, is the deputy director of Spokane County Library District. He received a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in English from Gonzaga University.

Moore, 59, earned a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin and bachelor’s degrees in biology and education from the University of Wyoming. Moore was executive director of Albany County Public Library in Laramie, Wyoming, until November.

Comments made by members of her staff suggest controversy leading up to the end of Moore’s term as director, but Maggie Farrell, the dean of libraries at the University of Wyoming while Moore headed the Albany County Public Library, said the claims are not the whole story.

In an interview this week, Farrell said Moore was an excellent director as the Albany County Public Library was going through significant changes and would seize an opportunity to work with her again.

The new director will replace Nancy Ledeboer, who is retiring in September.
