Spokane Valley man gets five years for possession of child pornography

A 65-year-old Spokane Valley man was sentenced Friday to five years in federal prison after previously pleading guilty to distribution of child pornography.

Thomas J. Montieth previously pleaded guilty after a Homeland Security agent working undercover in Spokane discovered Montieth sharing images of child pornography over the internet. Federal agents raided Montieth’s Spokane Valley home last September and found 21,294 images and 394 videos of child pornography on his electronic devices.

Montieth pleaded guilty last April. After serving his time in prison, Montieth will have a 10-year period of supervision and must register as a sex offender, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Lister.
