The next leader of the Spokane County Library District already has a decade of experience in the system.

The district’s board unanimously selected Patrick Roewe to become executive director of the district effective Sept. 1. The board voted on its pick Tuesday at the Argonne Library branch.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity and grateful for the board,” said Roewe, who currently serves as deputy director of the library district.

Roewe received a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Washington as well as a bachelor’s degree in English from Gonzaga University.

He joined the Spokane County Library District in 2007 as a librarian and since 2009 has held various positions in senior management.

“Sentiment is absolutely unanimous throughout the board,” Board Chair John Craig said of Roewe’s appointment. Craig said they are “delighted” and found the candidate “more than ready for the position.”

Roewe was one of two finalists in consideration to fill the role of executive director following Nancy Ledeboer’s retirement in September.
