Icy roads causing multiple crashes in Spokane County

Local law enforcement agencies are dealing with multiple crashes due to icy roads in the Spokane area and some roads are being shut down. The problem areas seem to be north and south of Spokane, not inside the city limits.

Highway 27 was shut down briefly shortly after 7 p.m. just north of Rockford after multiple crashes were reported, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Sevigney. Several cars also slid off State Route 395 near Hamilton Road. The WSP is asking people not to drive if they do not have to.

Several crashes were reported on Five Mile Road west of Waikiki and Spokane County deputies were attempting to deal with all the cars until a sanding crew could arrive.
