The Seattle Mariners lost to the Los Angeles Angels 6-4 in 11 innings in four hours, 40 minutes on Tuesday.

It was a long, painful slog of a game that featured 15 walks, nine from the Mariners and five alone from M’s starter, James Paxton.

Paxton only gave up one earned run and was able to limit the damage against him, if not against everyone’s bedtime.

This was a tough one to take for the Mariners, who are still trying to climb out of the hole they dug themselves in the first 10 days of the season.

They led in the late innings, lost the lead with their best reliever on the mound in the eighth inning, forced extras, then lost anyway.

In nearly five hours.

The good news is that Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz continue to hit, but at five games below .500 27 games into the season, the M’s are going to have to win 79 of 135 games left (.585 winning percentage, 95-win pace) to win 90 games.

It’s do-able, but losing games when you have the lead with your closer on the mound seem so much tougher to take.
