Education notebook: Shaw murals project ready to be painted at Harmon Skate Park

Four professional muralists through Spokane Arts will collaborate with students from Shaw Middle School on a project Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harmon Skate Park. After a visit from the muralists this winter, students made outlines of the murals and gave them to 30 artists to complete. Each student now has the opportunity to express his or her individual experience and display the finalized work at the park.

at ROV competition

Westwood Middle School in Cheney recently had two SeaPerch teams place first and third in a remotely-operated vehicles competition held at Eastern Washington University, qualifying them for nationals in Atlanta. Team 1 (William Emert, Carl Engburg and Carter Lefler) and Team 6 (Kaylin (Kiki) Davis, Olivia Hair, Darius Jennings and Harley Thornton) are preparing to drive their ROV’s through water at Cheney’s Holiday Inn Express.

Mead choir net awards at Reno Jazz Festival

Recently, the Mead Jazz Choir and two small groups competed at the Reno Jazz Festival, receiving 11 Outstanding Musician awards; a second place finish for the vocal quintet combo and a fifth place for the large group.

Award recipients were Evan Achten, Bridget Erb, Colton Fletcher , Cesar Galvan, Noah Graybeal , Paige Hardy, Mackenzie Turner, Robyn Villines and Jesse Yi.
