Man injured in north Spokane while illegally crossing the street
A man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after jaywalking through an intersection Tuesday night in north Spokane, according to police.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where his condition is stable, Spokane police said in a news release. He may have some broken bones but was alert and speaking with officers, police said.
Emergency crews were called to North Foothills Drive and Ruby Street about 7 p.m., where the man was hit by a vehicle while illegally crossing the road, police said.
Witnesses on scene told police the driver of the vehicle heading eastbound on North Foothills had a green light when the pedestrian crossed against the “don’t walk” sign while heading southbound on Ruby. Police said the man also appeared to be on his cellphone.
Speed or intoxication did not appear to be a contributing factor, the news release states. The driver of the vehicle has not been cited.
The intersection was closed for about two hours while police investigated. They ask anyone with information on the collision to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
