$25K gift to provide sensory rehab room

Kootenai Health has received $25,000 from Alliance Data to expand the treatment and resources available to those using outpatient pediatric rehabilitation.

The gift will be used to build a sensory room in Kootenai Health’s Rehabilitation Services building, according to a new release.

One in 20 children experience difficulty with processing senses that the majority of the population experiences as second nature. The sensory room will provide a space to allow children to explore sensory input and experiences. The room should be completed by spring.

Retailer marking two years in business with fundraiser

Cheney retailer Sweet Pea Boutique will celebrate its two-year anniversary with a fundraiser for the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. During October, the boutique will collect items to donate to the nursery and offer a portion of its sales to the nonprofit that helps parents having difficulty providing safe shelter and care their children. Items recommended for donation include diapers in sizes 4 through 6, wipes, spray sunscreen and laundry detergent.

Sweet Pea Boutique is a resale store for infant and children’s clothing, toys and accessories located at 108 College St. in Cheney.

Avista plans second Energy Fair

Area residents can learn about energy efficiency, managing utility bills and other energy-related topics during a two free Energy Fairs this month in Spokane.

The first fair runs until 4 p.m. today at Spokane Fair and Expo Center, Bay 3, 404 N. Havanna St.; the other is 3-6 p.m. Nov. 18 at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone St.

Avista staff will be on hand to offer energy-saving tips and will offer demonstrations for installing energy-efficient materials, including window plastic.. Community partners will be available to answer questions about services and resources for the community.

Library branches to host small business-support events

The Spokane County Library District announced it will be Neighborhood Champion, holding Small Business Saturday events at four branches.

Small businesses that meet criteria can join Small Business Saturday events on Nov. 25 at the Airway Heights, Cheney, Medical Lake and Moran Prairie libraries. During the event, shoppers collect stamps from each business in attendance, connecting small businesses with community members.

American Express founded Small Business Saturday in 2010 as part of the Shop Small movement, with the Neighborhood Champion Program providing an opportunity for community organizations, groups and individuals to support small business.
