Police gear up for arrest of man with gun powder

Associated Press

BELLEVUE – Bellevue police were ready to evacuate a neighborhood and had fire officials standing by after learning a man they sought to arrest was in possession of gun powder.

Police and King County sheriff SWAT teams were called to help serve an arrest warrant at 11 p.m. Sunday for a 48-year-old man.

Police say the man was released last week from a two-week involuntary psychological evaluation.

Once home, police say he assaulted his two daughters, ages 14 and 17, and pointed a gun at the older girl, threatening to kill her.

When officials learned the man had gun powder, they were concerned about the safety of people nearby.

With everyone in place, they ordered the man out of his house at midnight. He complied and was arrested without incident.
