Reader photo: So fresh, so clean

Photographer Joanie Christian spotted this common loon in a lake in Pend Oreille County on Sunday.

Christian said two bald eagles were hovering nearby, “making both loons nervous.” The female loon remained on its nest, she said. The nest was built on a small nesting platform on a small island. Two small saplings planted on either side of the platform gave the nest and nesting mama loon some cover.
