Achenbach sets strikeout record as Montana Sweeps Carroll College
The Montana Grizzly softball team swept Carroll College 5-1 and 7-2 in a non-conference double header on Tuesday but it was the accomplishments of an individual player that made the biggest headline.
Montana sophomore pitcher Tristin Achenbach struck out 16 of the 21 batters she faced as she surrendered just one run on three hits to pick up the win in game number one. Her 16 strikeouts in the contest broke the Griz program record (13) as well as the Big Sky Conference record (15).
Achenbach’s only struggles in the game came in the fourth inning when an error allowed Carroll to score an unearned run and take a brief 1-0 lead. The Great Fall CMR graduate Achenbach responded by striking out seven of the final 12 batters she faced the rest of the way and Montana scored five runs in the fifth inning to help Achenbach earn her fourth win of the season.
The Grizzlies have now won five games in a row and will resume Big Sky Conference play this weekend with a three game series on the road at first place Weber State.
