Troy Andersen Named to Walter Payton Award Watch List

With the Montana State football team set to begin fall practices on Friday, standout junior Troy Andersen has earned yet another preseason accolade to kick start the 2019 season. On Wednesday, Andersen was named to the 2019 Walter Payton Award Watch List, given annually to the top offensive player in all of FCS football. Andersen was an all conference quarterback last season for the blue and gold after he rushed for 1,412 yards, threw for 1,195 last season and his 21 rushing touchdowns in 2018 set an MSU single-season record. However he was listed on the watch list at the Athlete position. The Dillon, Montana product will likely be seeing reps at fullback and running back on offense but MSU head coach Jeff Choate hasn’t ruled out looks at tight end or wide receiver either. Andersen is also expected to be a starting linebacker this season, a position which he played his freshman year for the Cats. He is one of five Big Sky Conference players that were named to the Walter Payton Award Watch list this week.
