Frenchtown Geared Up For Redemption Season

No matter how much time passes, upsets will always be remembered. For the Frenchtown Broncs, their first-round loss to Corvallis in the 2018 class-A playoffs will never be forgotten—and that’s what makes them the team to beat in 2019.
Frenchtown head coach Ryne Nelson keeps the loss close to this year’s team so that it serves as a constant reminder of where they came from and where they have yet to go.
“I found a little news clip of the final score against Corvallis and it’s the background of the projector in our film room,” Nelson said. “I use it as motivation and if that won’t work, I don’t know what will.”
This year’s Frenchtown team is filled with playmakers who return to the field with fresh memories of last year’s 28-23 defeat.
Running backs Jace Klucewich and Ben Larson are expected to be the spark plugs for a Bronc squad focused on speed and explosion—and for good reason.
Last year Klucewich—a dual threat stud originally from California—rushed for 503 yards and 8 touchdowns, while taking 25 passes for 514 yards and 8 touchdowns, while Larson rushed for 760 ticks and 9 scores.
“We are really excited,” Klucewich said. “We have a pretty dang good team this year we have a lot of dudes and they all want to be out here which helps a lot and they like grinding out here.”
Meanwhile returning starting quarterback Cade Baker should see major improvement this fall as the day one starter after filling in for an injured Jared Cole early into last year’s campaign.
In 9 games, Baker completed 70 passes for 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns, while rushing for 57 yards and another score.
And although Baker went 4-3 in games that he started, it’s that one dreaded playoff loss to Corvallis that the senior quarterback hopes to overcome this year.
“[To return to the post-season] would mean a lot. We felt like we had a really good chance last year, but if we can take that not as a negative, but as a positive, it could help us this postseason,” Baker said.
The Broncs will go on the road to battle the Dillon Beavers this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
