Spokane County libraries offering free help with tax filings

The Spokane County Library District has announced a partnership with AARP to help taxpayers through the Free AARP Tax Aide program.

Library users can get help from trained volunteers in preparing and filing tax forms at Argonne, Cheney, Moran Prairie and Spokane Valley libraries.

The Argonne and Cheney libraries require appointments by calling Washington Trust Bank at (509) 353-4851.

Assistance at Moran Prairie and Spokane Valley libraries is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The locations, dates and times are:

    ARGONNE LIBRARY (by appointment only): Feb. 5 to April 11 on Tuesdays, 4-7 p.m. and Thursdays, 1-4 p.m.

    CHENEY LIBRARY (by appointment only): Feb. 8 to April 12 on Fridays and Saturdays. Check for days and times at scld.org/cheney-tax-aide.

    MORAN PRAIRIE LIBRARY: Feb. 1 to April 13 on Fridays 2-6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    SPOKANE VALLEY LIBRARY: Jan. 28 to April 15 on Mondays, 4-7 p.m. (except Feb. 18) and Fridays, 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Participants should bring 2018 tax-related documents, valid photo ID and Social Security cards everyone in the household. It is also recommended they bring a 2017 tax return.

Grants available for preserving historic facades

The Spokane Historic Preservation Office is offering a historic preservation incentive.

Created by a recent revision to the city’s historic preservation ordinance, the Historic Preservation Façade Improvement Grant Program will provide selected applicants with matching funds up to $5,000 for the rehabilitation of historic façades.

All properties listed on the Spokane Register of Historic Places and within the city of Spokane are eligible to apply.

The preservation office is accepting applications through April 1. Grants will be awarded in early May.
