Arnold Haspert 100th Birthday

Arnold Haspert celebrated his 100th birthday on Aug. 4. He was born in Richard, North Dakota, and has lived in Eastern Washington for about 70 years.

He met his wife, Virginia Haspert, in Seattle, and the couple was married in 1948.

Haspert was a pilot in World War II, later an instructor for two years and then a pharmacist for 40 years.

He credits his long and healthy life to hard work and his love of race horses, and his most memorable moments in the past 100 years were those spent as a pilot in World War II.

His children are Michael Haspert of Mountainview, California; Jeanne Fitzgerald of Post Falls; and Robert Haspert of Spokane Valley.

Haspert has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
