One man dead, another injured in Browne’s Addition shootings; suspect in custody

One man is dead and another was injured in two shootings early Monday in Browne’s Addition. The Spokane Police Department said a suspect, Frankie L. Kimble, is in custody.

At about 12:15 a.m., patrol units responded to reports of a shooting on the 2400 block of West Pacific Avenue, police spokesman Sgt. Terry Preuninger said. The caller said they heard gunshots and saw a man lying face down in the street, according to a news release from the department.

When police arrived, they found the body of a man on West Pacific, police said.

Not long after, there was a second report of a shooting in the area of Spruce Street and Clarke Avenue. There, police found an injured man who was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Preuninger said.

Police found a car covered in blood at West Sunset Boulevard and West Second Avenue, Preuninger said. The Major Crimes Unit arrived quickly to investigate, police said.

“That became a crime scene, and from that vehicle an SPD officer and a K-9 tracked all the way through that neighborhood across the river and into West Central, where they located a suspect,” Preuninger said.

The K-9 tracked the man across the Maple Street Bridge to a garage on the 1700 block of West College Avenue, police said. SWAT officers brought out an armored vehicle and positioned near the garage, police said.

Kimble, 34, came out of hiding and surrendered after officers made announcements over the loudspeaker.

Taken into custody, he is suspected of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the jail roster.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but the two shooting scenes appear to be related. Preliminary information indicates it’s unlikely the suspect or victims were from Spokane and could have been from Mississippi, Preuninger said.
