Spokane rallies behind Amy’s Donuts after business considers closing shop
After Amy’s Donuts in Spokane Valley announced Thursday that the establishment may close by Jan. 1, Spokane residents have swarmed the small shop in support.
In a post on Thursday, Amy’s Donuts thanked customers for their patronage and cited hard times for the reason behind a potential closure.
“Amy’s will try and remain open for the rest of December, but if things continue as they are, we will be closed January 1,” the Facebook post said.
Many customers showed support by purchasing doughnuts from the shop, which sold out every day since the announcement, according to its Facebook page, even before noon some days.
Due to the rush, Amy’s Donuts closed Monday to restock supplies and will reopen Tuesday from 5 a.m.-9 p.m. at 11519 E. Sprague Ave.
Owners Chin and Amy Kim did not respond to multiple requests for comment regarding the Spokane Valley location’spotential closure.
The Kims launched Amy’s Donuts in 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with the goal of building a small chain. The business rapidly gained a following for its quirky and colorful doughnuts through word-of-mouth and social media.
The couple subsequently opened locations in Cleveland and Tucson, Arizona and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Amy’s Donuts in Spokane Valley opened in November 2018 to much anticipation from the community.
The Kims mentioned affordability and quality of life and the need for a family-friendly doughnut shopas reasons for opening a location in the Inland Northwest.
