Bonners Ferry man killed in New Years Eve crash near Eastport

An Idaho man died in a car crash Tuesday afternoon, after his car left the road and hit a power pole south of Eastport, Idaho.

According to an Idaho State Police news release, Shawn M. Russell, 40, of Bonners Ferry was driving southbound on U.S. 95 about 9 miles south of Eastport at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when his 1996 Mercury Sable left the right shoulder of the road.

Russell hit a power pole and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

His family has been notified and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
