Area students earn academic honors

Graduation

The University of Utah in Salt Lake City held a virtual commencement ceremony to congratulate its graduates, including Dan McNamara of Pullman, Scott Peck of Spokane Valley and Samantha Thorne, Megan Perkins and Kiersten Utsey, all of Spokane. McNamara achieved a master of arts in Latin American studies, Peck achieved a bachelor of science in economics, Thorne achieved a bachelor of science in economics and bachelor of arts in international studies, Perkins achieved a master of science in civil and environmental engineering and Utsey achieved a doctorate in mathematics.

Dane Francis of Spokane graduated this spring from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri with a bachelor of general studies.

Honor roll

Jocelyn Gross of Pullman and Elena Hein of Medical Lake were named to the spring 2020 dean’s honor list at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. The recognition requires students to maintain a 3.75 semester GPA while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Maria Sharman of Spokane was named to Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s dean’s list for academic excellence for the spring 2020 semester. She is a sophomore majoring in robotics engineering and mechanical engineering. WPI does not compute a GPA, but defines the dean’s list by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

Emma Sweatman and Emma Dilley, both of Spokane, were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.

Jessie Dillon of Newport achieved spring 2020 dean’s list honors at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio. To earn the achievement, students must attain a GPA of at least 3.5.

Molly McCormick of Spokane, Micah Peters of Colbert and Alyssa Rodgers of Pullman were named to the dean’s list for the 2020 spring semester at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida.

Brian Hill of Spokane Valley achieved spring 2020 dean’s list honors at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. To be named, full-time undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 graded credit hours with a 3.5 semester GPA with no D, F or incomplete grades.

Amanda Reed of Spokane was named to the spring 2020 semester dean’s list at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. To be eligible, students must be enrolled full-time and earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or above.

Rebekah Cashen of Newman Lake was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester at Central College in Pella, Iowa. The honor is awarded to full-time students who achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher while taking 12 or more graded credit hours.

Kitt Lee of Spokane achieved dean’s list honors for the spring 2020 semester at Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts. To be named, students must achieve a semester GPA of 3.3 or higher. Lee is pursuing a doctor of pharmacy degree.

Alisa Crooks of Spokane Valley and Nathaniel Quantock and Sierra Sohn, both of Spokane, were named to the dean’s list at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The list recognizes full-time undergraduate students with an academic record of 3.5 GPA or above.

Sara Zwink of Liberty Lake achieved dean’s list status during the spring 2020 academic quarter at Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The honor requires students to achieve a GPA of at least 3.5 for the quarter.

Honors

Abigail Karlis of Fairfield was named a 2019-20 scholar-athlete by the Heart of America Athletic Conference for academic achievements at Graceland University. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher, have a minimum of 60 accumulated credit hours, complete at least five semesters of college and have documented participation in a varsity competition in the sport for which they are nominated. Karlis participates in women’s volleyball and is majoring in elementary education.

Brittney Poston of Spokane was initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at Central Washington University.

Morgan Tracy of Greenacres is one of 30 students who recently received their white coats from the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program at University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Tracy will now move into 12 months of clinical studies and is set to complete the MSPAS program in 2021.
