Honor roll
Jessica Stocks of Spokane has earned a spot on the spring 2020 dean’s list at University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. To be eligible, a student must earn a 3.5 GPA or higher. Stocks is majoring in exercise science.
Maxwell Sadler of Spokane has qualified for the spring 2020 dean’s list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a GPA of 3.5 or higher with no grade below a C.
Stephanie Hyta of Spokane was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. The list recognizes students who achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Mary Phan of Spokane was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Castleton University in Castleton, Vermont. To qualify, the student must maintain full-time status and a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Grant Skinner of Spokane has qualified for the spring 2020 dean’s list at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher on nine or more semester hours of graded coursework are honored. Skinner is majoring in pre-dentistry.
Ava Bloom, Brandon Brewer, Mara Moore and Eric Rorholm, all of Spokane and Kailee Kinney of Veradale were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Qualification varies between a 3.5-3.75 minimum semester GPA depending on the college. Bloom is pursuing a bachelor of arts in corporate communications, Brewer is pursuing a bachelor of science in biomedical sciences, Moore is pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing, Rorholm is pursuing a bachelor of arts in political science and Kinney is pursuing a bachelor of science in marketing.
Paul Marano of Spokane was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Emerson College in Boston. The honor requires a GPA of 3.7 or higher. Marano is working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing.
Honors
Cameron Conner of Spokane, a senior at Whitman College in Walla Walla, has received the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. The award helps students travel the world. Conner is a rhetoric and politics double-major who helped co-found the nonprofit Conscious Connections Foundation with his parents. After travel restrictions are lifted, he plans to take his community building experience abroad to study approaches to community wealth building in the U.K., Peru, Spain and Mongolia.
Several local students were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi while attending Eastern Washington University, including Cody Fox, Eunice Kutsar, Sara Aman-Martin, Alexis Madden, Robert Brewer, Brandon Gamman, Ashleigh Sanford, Erik Stewart-Smith and Jason Still, all of Spokane; Brian O’Riley, Robert Englehardt, Michelle Sparr and Joshua Patchett, all of Spokane Valley; Anthony Flinn, Ann VanWig, Kelsey Hovley, Tressa Peifer, Ammi Hanna and Brian Davenport, all of Cheney; Ryan Finnegan of Liberty Lake; and Joseph Stoutimore II of Newman Lake. Madison Goldfeldt of Liberty Lake was initiated at Boise State University. Approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni are initiated each year. Membership is by invitation only and just the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership.
