Spokane Arts has created a fund for self-employed and freelance creatives who primarily rely on income from gigs, performance, teaching opportunities, workshops and classes to cover basic expenses, according to a news release from the nonprofit. The fund will provide aid to those who are facing lost income due to canceled events or other hardships amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

GSC Meals on Wheels nets TP donationThe Greater Spokane County Meals on Wheels received 700 rolls of toilet paper Tuesday morning from staff members of Horizon Credit Union.“So many of our clients are homebound and are seeing images of shortages and hearing about emergency declarations,” Janet Dixon, director of development for GSC Meals on Wheels, said in a statement. “This donation will enable us to give them peace of mind as well as the necessities they need to weather this storm.”The toilet paper will be added to bags that are being filled with food supplies and personal care items. These will be delivered by volunteers on their regular routes.Volunteer drivers have been instructed to practice social distancing, stay home if they feel even just a little ill, wash hands frequently and sanitize their hands between deliveries. GSC Meals on Wheels has also developed a “no contact” option – knocking or ringing the doorbell, leaving the meal near the door and stepping back 6 to 12 feet. An important part of the volunteer’s task is to converse and check on the client’s general well-being.The agency is looking for volunteer drivers and people to work in its kitchen when the Silver Cafe sites are closed and mobile seniors are switched to home-delivery.
