Avista Foundation grants UW School of Medicine funds for handheld ultrasound machines
The Avista Foundation granted the University of Washington School of Medicine $50,000 to help purchase handheld ultrasound machines for students to use during their studies.
The machines can confirm physical exam findings faster, and students in the UW School of Medicine, as well as students in Spokane residency programs and Gonzaga University nursing and physiology students, will have the ability to learn with the handheld machines in the future.
“By incorporating point-of-care ultrasonography, we can improve medical students’ knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, reinforcing physical examination findings in real time,” Darryl Potyk, MD, associate dean at the UW School of Medicine in Spokane, said in a news release.
The machines can eliminate the need for additional imaging and testing and increase the amount of time providers can spend with patients.
