NBA Basketball

The NBA rears its head for the 2021-22 campaign with this preseason contest between the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies. The Bucks, of course, are coming off a championship 2020-21 season behind the exploits of their “Greek Freak” All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who took home NBA Finals MVP honors with their six-game triumph over the Phoenix Suns this past summer. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies, meanwhile, are hoping to build on a surprising 38-34 season a year ago. 5 p.m. on TNT.

MLB Baseball

It’s do or die for one American League team tonight as the two clubs with the best regular season records among division nonwinners get set to do battle in the Wild Card Game. The victor here, of course, advances to the best-of-five Division Series, which begins Thursday, against the team with the AL’s best record. The National League Wild Card Game takes place tomorrow and airs on TBS. 5 p.m. on ESPN.

‘American Masters’

Airing in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month,‘‘Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It’’ profiles the Oscar-, Emmy-, Grammy- and Tony Award-winning actress whose career has spanned 70 years. The film traces how Moreno was born into poverty before immigrating from Puerto Rico to New York at age 5 with her seamstress mother. Despite becoming the first Latina actress to win an Oscar (for ‘‘West Side Story’’), she subsequently found herself relegated to stereotypical lesser roles. Interviewees include Norman Lear, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gloria Estefan and Eva Longoria. (TV-14) 8 p.m. on 7.1.

‘The Dead Files’

Former homicide detective Steve DiSchiavi and medium Amy Allan uncover multiple unsavory secrets lurking in the dark corners of a haunted theater in Washington in the new episode “Bloody History.” Later, they investigate a North Carolina man’s claims that he is being terrorized by a ghost in the home where he grew up. (TV-PG) 8 p.m. on TRAV.

‘Level Playing Field’

“The Assist,” the finale to this four-part docuseries, explores how sports and politics often intersect by examining the landmark role the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream played in the election of U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock, as well as the ongoing fight against aggressive voter suppression in Georgia. The impassioned campaign the team’s players mounted against then-Georgia Sen. (and team owner) Kelly Loeffler had an undeniable impact on one of the most closely watched U.S. Senate races in history. (TV-14) 8 p.m. on HBO.

‘Deerskin’

Best known for his Oscar-winning turn in the title role of 2011’s “The Artist,” French actor Jean Dujardin also earned critical kudos for his performance in writer-director Quentin Dupieux’s darkly comic 2019 horror film. The actor stars as Georges, a middle-age drifter who becomes obsessed with owning a very expensive deerskin jacket. Able to think of little else, Georges quickly blows through his modest life savings and is forced to turn to a life of crime. Adele Haenel, Albert Delpy and Pierre Gommé also are featured. 8 p.m. on MAX.

‘Our Kind of People’

In the new episode “Hot Links & Red Drinks,” Angela (Yaya DaCosta) wants Nikki (Alana Bright) to be the face of Eve’s Crown and forces Leah’s (Nadine Ellis) hand about the incubator program. Meanwhile, Piggy (recurring guest star Debbi Morgan) confronts her past, while Raymond (Morris Chestnut) faces off with Teddy (Joe Morton) about getting his company back.
