‘2022 Winter Olympics’
Hardware will be handed out tonight in the short program of men’s figure skating, where Japan’s Hanyu Yuzuru is the odds-on favorite to win his third straight Olympic gold medal in this event. Challenging him will be American Nathan Chen, the three-time world champion who has yet to top a podium in Olympic competition but could break through here. 5 p.m. on 6.1.
‘The Divorcee’
Norma Shearer won an Academy Award as best actress in filmmaker Robert Z. Leonard’s 1930 film, in which she stars as New York socialite Jerry Martin, whose marriage to hubby Ted (Chester Morris) is strained when she learns of a past fling he had. Robert Montgomery, Conrad Nagel, Helen Johnson and Florence Eldridge also star in the film, which earned an Oscar nod as best picture and for Leonard as best director. The movie launches a series of ‘‘breakup classics’’ airing Mondays through February. 5 p.m. on TCM.
‘College Basketball’
A clash of Big 12 rivals is in the offing tonight in the state capital of Austin, where the Texas Longhorns play host to the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks, ranked seventh in the nation at this writing, boast a strong backcourt of senior Ochai Agbaji and sophomore Dajuan Harris Jr. The No. 23 Longhorns, meanwhile, have a strong scorer up front in senior forward Timmy Allen. This is the first meeting between these teams this year. 6 p.m. on ESPN.
‘Clotilda: Last American Slave Ship’
This fascinating new documentary explores the 2019 discovery of a shipwreck in the murky waters of Alabama’s Mobile River. The wreckage soon was identified as the Clotilda, the last known ship used to transport enslaved Africans into Mobile in 1860, long after that practice was banned by Congress. After the voyage was completed, the ship was burned and scuttled in an attempt to destroy the evidence. The film follows an underwater archaeological expedition exploring the Clotilda and some of its revelatory artifacts. (TV14) 7 p.m. on NGEO.
‘9-1-1: Lone Star’
Owen’s (Rob Lowe) first date with Catherine (guest star Amy Acker), the Texas governor’s beautiful and accomplished chief of staff, goes off the rails in the new episode ‘‘Child Care.’’ Meanwhile, the members of the 126 team are summoned to a house where a couple’s young daughter has gone missing. Later, Judd (Jim Parrack) encounters a teenager who has a profound impact on him. Liv Tyler, Ronen Rubinstein and Sierra McClain also star. (TV14) 8 p.m. on 28.1.
‘American Experience’
Season 34 of this acclaimed documentary series opens with the new one-hour episode ‘‘Riveted: The History of Jeans,’’ which chronicles the surprising story behind what many might regard as the ultimate American garment. Jeans have been worn by everyone from U.S. presidents and supermodels to farmers and rock stars, so clearly, these are more than just a pair of pants. The country’s tangled past is woven into their fabric, given that their roots extend from the era of slavery to the Wild West and beyond. (TVPG) 9 p.m. on 12.1.
‘Secrets of Playboy’
The new episode ‘‘The Price of Loyalty’’ revisits a 1970s investigation into Hugh Hefner, his empire and illegal substances by the Drug Enforcement Agency, through the lens of two women who were living and working at Playboy. The first was Hefner’s right-hand associate, Bobbie Arnstein, who committed suicide while under scrutiny for alleged drug trafficking; the second was former Playboy Bunny Adrienne Pollack, who died of a drug overdose in 1973. 9 p.m. on A&E.
‘Twenties’
This lively character-driven comedy, a semi-autobiographical piece from Emmy winner Lena Waithe, opens Season 2 with two back-to-back episodes, starting with ‘‘One Night Only?,’’ which finds main character Hattie (Jonica T. Gibbs) desperately trying to juggle working on her script, settling into a new place, and trying to make things work with her boss, Ida B. (Sophina Brown). Meanwhile, Nia (Gabrielle Graham) starts her first day on ‘‘Cocoa’s Butter,’’ and Marie (Christina Elmore) questions her relationship with Chuck (Jevon McFerrin). (TV14) 9 p.m. on SHOW.
