‘She Played With Fire’
English insurance investigator Oliver Branwell (Jack Hawkins) finds himself drawn into a lethal web of arson, blackmail and murder after running into Sarah Moreton (Arlene Dahl), his beautiful ex-lover, who is in the process of running a forgery scam with her husband, Tracey (Dennis Price), in this 1957 adaptation of a novel by Winston Graham. Sidney Gilliat directed and co-wrote this stylish film noir, which also stars Violet Farebrother, Patrick Holt and Bernard Miles. The film opens a marathon tribute to Dahl, who died in November at age 96. 3 p.m. on TCM.
‘Everything’s Gonna Be All White’
This new three-part docuseries from Emmy-nominated filmmaker Sacha Jenkins (“Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men”) explores the history of race in America from the perspectives of people of color. The production – which continues on the next two Fridays – examines some of the root causes of racial inequity, including the generational effects of racism on housing, education and health care, as well as the unique struggle being fought by Indigenous populations to reclaim their lands from what feels like non-stop encroachment by outsiders. ‘Cold Case Files’
This Emmy-nominated true-crime docuseries continues its sophomore season with “Dark Angel,” which revisits the 1988 disappearance of Pam Pitts. Nearly two weeks later, her body is found at a popular hangout spot in the Arizona desert. Shortly thereafter, a second victim’s remains are discovered in a mineshaft, leading detectives to theorize the killer knew both these women. The truth, however, won’t be discovered for decades. ‘Ancient Aliens’
A new episode called “Recovering the Ark of the Covenant” revolves around a sacred relic of the ancient world that played a key role in the Steven Spielberg movie blockbuster “Raiders of the Lost Ark.: This religious artifact was said to contain the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments given by God to Moses. Roughly 2,600 years ago, however, the Ark vanished from human history. If found, many experts believe this item would offer strong proof that extraterrestrials figured into humanity’s distant past. ‘Old Henry’
Celebrated character actor Tim Blake Nelson (“The Ballad of Buster Scruggs”) received fresh acclaim for his performance in the title role of Potsy Ponciroli’s character-driven 2021 Western about a reclusive farmer and his son (Nelson, Gavin Lewis) who take in a wounded stranger (Scott Haze) being pursued by a band of outlaws. Trace Adkins, Stephen Dorff and Richard Speight Jr. co-star in the film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The National Board of Review included the movie among its Top Ten Independent Films of 2021. 9 p.m. on SHOW.
