Gov. Gregoire, horses on video, West Plains Voice debut

Gov. Christine Gregoire's campaign made it into Spin Control 2.0 but not into the print edition. Reporter Jim Camden went to check out the campaign, writing for the Web and bringing an audio recorder to feed quotes to the radio men. But others wondered if a blurb about Gregoire has enough news value to appear in the next morning's paper.

What if she doesn't say or do anything that isn't newsy the next day, asked editor Steve Smith and managing editor Gary Graham. The fact that she's running again is old information. On the other hand, assistant city editor Dave Wasson asked if it counts for something that the state's top official was visiting Spokane. Photo director Larry Reisnouer agreed, that it's important she was here, that the visit was worth a news brief.

Some other factors: Was it newsy only during the day e.g. for radio and web, was it newsy to people other than those who attended the governor's gathering, was she visiting as a candidate or as a governor? Discuss this with Smith at News is a Conversation...
