Down To Earth

You say you want a revolution…

Members of congress carry around “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.” Colleges now require students to read “Fast Food Nation.” Most tellingly, the new Secretary of Agriculture took a jackhammer to a patch of pavement outside his headquarters to create an organic “people’s garden.” With the Obama Administration, activists hope for a complete federal overhaul of the food system like tripling the budget for school lunches to provide our kids with healthier options. The food revolution has never been given such serious consideration until now: “…farm policy — and federal dollars — should instead encourage farmers to grow more diverse crops, reward conservation practices and promote local food networks that rely less on fossil fuels for such things as fertilizer and transportation.” MORE.
