Colbrese says little flexibility w/ finals

PREPS

I just got off the phone with WIAA executive director Mike Colbrese and he said the state football championship games at the Tacoma Dome will go on as scheduled next weekend with one change.

The 2B state final, scheduled for Friday night at 7:30 p.m., will be flopped with 1B, scheduled for the same time slot on Saturday to give the winner of Monday’s Colfax/Waitsburg-Prescott semifinal an extra day to prepare and travel.

Colbrese said that’s the only flexibility the WIAA has with the schedule since the 4A and 2A finals are already scheduled to be played on Saturday. Had those games been scheduled for Friday, they would have been switched to Saturday.

“We don’t have any flexibility around that,” Colbrese said.

Colbrese said that Ferris and East Valley school officials understood that the WIAA didn’t have many options concerning the postponement and switching of semifinal sites.

Colbrese said the decision not to play at Albi Stadium was the call of the Albi facilities personnel.

“It would have been our choice to play at Albi Stadium,” Colbrese said. “Both Westside teams were there and ready to play (Friday).”
