Weekend starts with links

COUGARS

FROM PULLMAN — With this weekend's game being played on a Sunday, it's a quiet Saturday in Pullman. But we do have some basketball notes, as well as assorted other links, to pass along. Read on.

Spoke with a couple WSU players yesterday in advance of their game Sunday against Fresno State, and wrote a bit about freshman forward Junior Longrus on the blog. … Howie Stalwick has this WSU notebook, with the news that a former Cougar player is an all-star overseas. … Percy Allen ranks WSU 10th in his Pac-12 power rankings. … Jason King of ESPN.com ranks WSU ninth.

In Pac-12 football news … Arizona State expects Will Sutton to return next season. … Washington's Kasen Williams quietly had one of the best seasons by a receiver in school history. … Utah is busy recruiting. … USC's heralded receiver wants to make a run at the Heisman next season (though maybe it's his teammates who should take that oath, because I'm not sure how much more Lee can do on his own). … Oregon has to deal with another dual-threat quarterback in a BCS game. … Colorado's recruits are anxiously following the school's coaching search. … Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey could get some Heisman votes. … Oregon State players honor the memory of their fallen teammate, one year later. A Beaver freshman is part of an elite group.

In Pac-12 basketball news … Washington, which hosts Nevada tonight (5 p.m., Pac-12 Network), is committed to its high-post offense. … Colorado has a tough game at No. 9 Kansas today (11 a.m., ESPN2). … Arizona State, which hosts Cal-State Northridge today (11 a.m., Pac-12  Network), is getting some versatility out of one of its post players. … Oregon State hosts Grambling State today (1 p.m., Pac-12 Network). … Arizona might see a sold-out arena when it plays at Clemson today (5 p.m., ESPN2). … UCLA, which plays at Texas this afternoon (2:15 p.m., ESPN), is led in scoring by an unassuming freshman. … Oregon hosts Idaho State today (3 p.m., Pac-12 Networks). The Cougars play ISU on Dec. 29. … Utah will try to exact revenge for its football loss to BYU tonight (6 p.m., no TV). … Another tough one for USC tonight, as the Trojans host No. 14 Minnesota (7:30 p.m., Pac-12 Network).
