From Pullman -- It was announced before the football season that defensive end/BUCK linebacker Logan Mayes would be transferring out of the Washington State football program in search of more playing time. Today it was announced what school will be his new home.

Cal Poly announced today that Mayes is attending winter classes and intends to play for the football team. He will have two years of eligibility remaining, and will not have to sit out a season as Cal Poly is not a member of the NCAA FBS.

"His forte is that he is a great pass rusher at the Pac-12 level, which is an area we need to improve," said Cal Poly head football coach Tim Walks. "He could possibly step right in, but he has to beat out some guys."

Mayes played extensively as a sophomore, recording three starts and appearing in all 12 games. In the Apple Cup he recorded five tackles and two hurries, the second of which led to a crucial interception. He was also named Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

"Logan just wants to be an every-down player, and with us, he's a pass-rush specialist," Washington State head coach Mike Leach told KJR 950-AM in Seattle. "He wants to be an every down player and feels like he's got the opportunity to do that, and we wish him the best. And I think he's going to do a great job."
