National attention: Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar sits in the operator’s chair in the Hanford B Reactor as Russ Fabre, left, explain the reactor’s control panel during a tour Sunday with Rep. Doc Hastings, Gov. Chris Gregoire and Sen. Maria Cantwell. Salazar toured the reactor at the end of a weekend visit to Washington. “We have not yet done a good enough job of telling the story of World War II and the nuclear era born out of the war,” he said. In July, Salazar recommended to Congress that a Manhattan Project National Historical Park be formed with properties including Hanford.
