A 4-week-old harbor seal pup, top, is welcomed to nurse alongside a 1- to 2-week-old pup in the Henderson Bay haul-out site north of Olympia on Friday. Nearby residents started an effort on Tuesday to rescue the pup, which had been left alone and crying for nearly a week. Federal officials had blocked any attempts to rescue the pup, citing the strict regulations of the Marine Mammal Protection Action to let nature take its course.
