Bjork was appointed to his position as District 9 fire commissioner in October by the Spokane County Commissioners after his fellow commissioners couldn’t decide on who to appoint to the seat. He retired from the City of Spokane in 2000 as the Director of Water and Hydroelectric Services. He worked for the city more fore than 20 years. He has lived in the Mead area since 2001, prior to which he lived in the Spokane Valley area. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1967 and did tours in Korea in Germany. Bjork said he wants to serve on the board because of his desire for public service. He and his wife Christine have been married since 1967 and have two children.
