Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is viewable in the early evening sky west of Spokane, Monday. Oct. 14, 2024. The comet appeared in night skies over the Northern Hemisphere earlier in October and came within 44 million miles of Earth over the past weekend. It will still be visible for the next couple of weeks.

A bullfrog rests within the colorful refections of Mirror Pond in Manito Park, Monday, June 10, 2024. Bullfrogs are ambush predators and will eat almost any animal they can capture and swallow, including worms, insects, crayfish, fishes, other frogs, snakes, small turtles, small mammals and even birds. They are the largest North American frog, weighing up to 1 pound and measuring up to 8 inches.

Justin Janke, was a once hot-shot North Central distance state champ. He never quite lived up to his potential at WSU, partially thanks to a foot injury that got misdiagnosed and cost him his last two years. He started up running on his own, training with the Gonzaga guys on Pat Tyson's invitation. He ran a 4:04 mile indoors this winter, which is the fastest he's run since high school. He doesn't really have any big ambitions, just wants to finish on his own terms.

University senior wrestler is a three-time state champion at 105-pounds and is looking to become just the fifth girl in state history to win four titles, which she could accomplish at Mat Classic in February at the Tacoma Dome.

Sprinter Taylor Swanson, 31, who has cerebral palsy, competed and won in the National Paralympics in March, and she just came in second in the World Championship Paralympics. Swanson is now preparing to try out for the official Paralympics team in July. She runs the 100m and 200m. Despite struggling with mobility issues related to her cerebral palsy since 2014, she is able to compete with the help of a functional electrical stimulation device that improves her mobility.

Theresa Elisoff examines the damage to her vehicles parked in front of her house after a dead tree in Grant Park fell across the 1700 block of 9th Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec 18, 2024. “I was on the phone with my husband and was telling him that I worried about trees falling in the wind storm, “said Elisoff. “About 15 seconds after I said that, I heard a loud crash.” The ponderosa pine struck and damaged her new Ford Ranger pickup truck. The tree also took down power lines, which Avista worked to restore power in the afternoon.
